15th Annual Art Auction

Under the Honorary Chairmanship of Tom & Gwen Nacos, the Shield of Athena Family Services will hold its 15th Annual Art Exhibition and Auction on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Bonsecours Market in Old Montreal. The event will raise money for our professional and counselling services for women and children who are victims of conjugal and family violence and also for our shelter, Athena’s House. For this special 15th anniversary, we will be honouring one of the most prominent members of the Hellenic community, Madame Justice Dionysia Zerbisias of the Superior Court of Quebec. We will once again be inviting artists to participate in this annual event which is expected to draw over 400 people this year.

Milestones:

• In 1994, we held our 1st art auction with a bake sale at Town of Mount Royal Hall. We had 12 participating artists and 40 works of art.

• Since 1998, we enlarged the scope of the event, increased the number of participating artists to 50, and quadrupled our revenues. The auction has become a multicultural affair that appeals to many, both for the cause it supports and for the quality of art that can be obtained. Our artists are a mélange of professionals and amateurs coming from all walks of life and diverse ethnic origins. The varied work that is displayed includes paintings, sculpture, jewelry and pottery.

Silent Auction

As part of the Annual Art Auction, we also hold a Silent Auction, an increasingly successful part of this exciting event. Last year, every item in our silent auction was sold – and many of the items attracted publicity for the businesses donating items.
We are now soliciting items for the Silent Auction and hope that you can contribute. We gratefully accept products, gift certificates and services. We would be happy to pick up products and display information about your business at your convenience.

Art Catalogue

Each year, the Shield of Athena produces an art catalogue to commemorate the auction. Businesses, families and friends can support our services by buying an ad. Last year, with your generous support and our dedicated volunteers, our offices and shelter served more than 2015 clients including 88 children exposed to violence.
